I hope you all have an amazing Easter!
This week for Favorite Stuff Friday I found the blog 365 Jars.
Every day Kirsty Hall releases an art jar into the wild for people to find and keep.
This is such a fun and creative idea!

When I was much younger, my BFF and I had a special place we called the Dream Place. Was it dreamy? … Well not really… but we felt like it was our private little area by the lake where we could sit and talk, learn to skip rocks or pluck turtles out of the mossy green water and name them Sam.
Ever since then I think having a special place to zone out and enjoy nature is important.
Do you have a special place to re-energize?
In most of my paintings I tell some of the story with words. So I thought I would add a little category called War on Words…. so here’s my little rant about the word indefinitely.
Every once in awhile I walk past this neat little area during my little work breaks. It’s always felt so whimsical and inspiring, a life size chess board surrounded by beautiful purple flowering vines and trees (see partial pic above)… I guess you could say it’s very Harry Potterish.
But the other day I went by and all of the chess pieces were gone. GONE! With a note saying they were removed INDEFINITELY! I took my little Harry Potter area for granted. I always thought one day I would take a bunch of pictures (I only managed to get this partial pic above) with all of the pretty purple flowers blooming… the perfect picture. But now, apparently my perfect picture will be on hold INDEFINITELY.
INDEFINITELY…. It’s such a yucky word. It’s like being in a maybe, maybe not limbo. I think I would feel better if the sign read, “Hey, we took away your chess pieces and we might possibly return them someday… we’re not sure yet. Thank you for your patience on our inability to be decisive.” It makes more sense if you think about it.
So for now…RIP life size chess pieces, you will be missed… even though I have no clue how to play chess… I still loved to admire your lovely whimsicalness. A part of me will INDEFINITELY hold out hope I will see you again.
Are there any words that you find funny, irritating or just plain odd?
I’ve found lately that my dream of the perfect life includes growing my own vegetables. Watching the little seed grow into a plant and bear the fruit of my labor. It just sounds like so much fun! Until the sad little plant dies an untimely death because of my inability to water the poor thing correctly. I’ve found the green thumb I had in Washington doesn’t seem to extend itself to California.
So instead of growing my own veggies and subject them to a unhappy end, I decided to join a group called Abundant Harvest. They deliver fresh, locally grown organic fruits and veggies every week. It’s fun to see what new things we get every week, and I’ve tried a lot of new things I wouldn’t have tried before. I’m sure many cities around the country have the same kind of groups.
It makes me happy to think I’m doing a small part in helping local farmers, and in saving our environment. And the bonus is we get to eat delicious fresh fruit and veggies! Yum!
I still might try to grow some of my own fruits and vegetables in the near future…. I’m thinking I want a lemon tree, cause I think they’re pretty. Hopefully I won’t kill it.
But for now at least I know we’re living a semi-sustainable life.
Maybe I’m in a bit of a sentimental mood today…. But I decided to make my wedding florist, Geranium Lake Flowers in Portland, OR my favorite thing for today. I still receive their newsletters in my e-mail and keep up with Kim the owner on Facebook. I’m so impressed with the way her business has grown. She’s opening a HUGE new store soon, and she’s been featured on the Today show.
Just from working with her I know why she’s had so much success, Kim and her staff create the most amazing floral designs. And when you talk to her you can see how much she loves what she’s doing.
So this is a big CONGRATULATIONS to Kim for all of her amazing success over the past 4 years… I miss my wedding flowers!
After months of hard work my website is sparkly and new!
Take a look around, explore and enjoy all the new features! There’s almost too many to mention… a new gallery, bio, news page…. STORE! Yay!
If you join my e-mail and snail mail list you will receive a free gift, a signed 5 x 7 lithograph. I will be sending out a bi-weekly newsletter loaded with fun and interesting info. So be sure to sign up and join me on my adventure through Deannaville and beyond.
Please, share you thoughts on the new site…. as long as they’re all positive.
I've been working as an art director in the entertainment industry for many years. One day I woke up and thought, ""Hey, I think I should paint!" Ok, maybe it didn't happen quite like that but I'll fill you in on the little details as we get to know each other.
